The TALE (Tradition And The Lagos Experience) project is an innovative initiative conceived within the framework of the Lantern Art and Space Fellowship Programme, a collaborative effort between the Sahara Centre and the Goethe-Institut Nigeria. This fellowship seeks to transform the landscape of artistic expression in Lagos by repurposing existing spaces into vibrant hubs for creativity and cultural exchange. TALE aligns seamlessly with this vision by addressing the critical need for the preservation, documentation, and presentation of Lagos’s rich cultural heritage.
Through immersive storytelling experiences centered around historically relevant buildings, TALE aims to create a deeper connection between the city’s past, present, and future, fostering community engagement, cultural appreciation, and educational enrichment.
The proposed site for TALE project’s pilot program is the former Ministry of Justice Building in Marina, Lagos, a 124-year-old edifice that has played a pivotal role in shaping the city’s governance. This building, with its unique architecture and storied past, offers a compelling backdrop for artistic expression and cultural exploration.
